A WORKSHOP HELD IN THE UNIVERSITY


 WORKSHOP ON THE CONCEPT OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND THE DRAVIDIAN
MOVEMENT-

Chennai: Centre for Reaserch on Dravidian Movement of University of Madras conducted a half day workshop on the concept of Social Justice and Dravidian Movement here at Chepauk. Dr Panneer Selvam, coordinator for the Centre for Research on Dravidian Movement welcomed the gathering and explained the objective of the workshop. “History is not mere facts, but has a relevant context attached to it”, prof Anand Amaladass, Satyam Nilayam research institute Chennai stressed the lines in the Presidential Address. Prof C. BalaKrishnan, Former Professor of History, University of Madras presented the paper on ‘Demand for Social Justice under Colonial Rule in the Madras Presidency and British response (1857-1947). Mangalam Murukesh, a twin doctorate holder lectured on ‘the Implication of the Social Justice in the Present Day Context. Dr A. Azhagarasan, another speaker from the Department of English, University of Madras spoke on ‘Social Justice and Dravidian Movement: A Dalit Critique. Dr Sudharsanan Padmanabhan from the Department of HSS, IIT Madras presented a paper on ‘Social Justice in Tamil Nadu: Applying Rawls, Amarthya Sen and Periyar. Students from various departments including research scholars participated in the workshop
